Richard Bartlett (1926- 2015)

Dick returned to private practice in 1986 to Bartlett, Pontiff, Stewart & Rhodes, the firm which he helped found and which bears his name. His dedication to public continued. He became a member of the Board of Law Examiners in 1986 and served until 2001, including serving as Chair from 1998-2001. He was a Director and life fellow of the New York Bar Foundation and served as President from 2000-03. He was a member and life fellow of the American Bar Foundation; a member of the Board of Editors of the New York State Bar Journal; a member of the New York State Bar Association Committee on Professional Ethics; a life fellow of the American Law Institute; and a member of the New York Bar Association House of Delegates, 2002-06. In 2011, he was appointed to the Commission on Public Integrity by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Dick was also the President of the United Cerebral Palsy Association; Chair and member of the Board of Trustees of the Hyde Collection; Director of the Adirondack Nature Conservancy; Director on the Glens Falls Symphony board; and President of the Lake George Club.

Dick was the recipient of many honors, including Gold Medal Award from the New York State Bar Association, Lifetime Achievement Award from the New York State Bar Foundation, the Charles Evan Hughes Award from the Warren County Bar Association, the Judge Duane Award from the Northern District of New York Federal Court Bar Association; the Herbert Harley Award from the American Judicature Society; the William Nelson Cromwell Award from the New York County Lawyers Association; the Henry Crandall Award from the Crandall Public Library and he and his wife Claire were recipients of the Good Scout Award from the Boy Scouts of America.

Dick was predeceased by his beloved Claire and is survived by his two children, Michael (Ann) Bartlett and Amy (Robert) Bartlett; his sister Nancy Bartlett Horne, two grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews.
